Meet Gilbert Mackay

A senior Procurement leader and consultant, specialised in Indirect procurement. 20+ years of experience in creating and delivering hands-on strategic procurement with high levels of stakeholder engagement; leading, building & being part of great teams to deliver exceptional value for global organisations.​

A strong background in multiple sectors, including Retail, Network & Telecoms and Financial Services. Proven record of managing and developing all indirect spend category procurement processes and strategies, which have resulted in significant cost reductions and operational efficiencies within the supply chain. Seasoned in the creation of Vendor Management and IT Procurement functions and the delivery of category plans.

Gilbert’s Assignments

  • Network & Telecom – Interim Head of Procurement (Direct and Indirect goods and services), leading Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Operations teams. Led Procurement workstream in preparing and executing supplier-related activities linked to a significant company divestment. ​

  • Road / Rail Logistics – Interim Head of Procurement (Indirect goods and services). Scope included IT, travel, property and professional services areas. Repositioned business relationships for Procurement to become a strategic business partner and an enabling function. Recruited a permanent team, including the Procurement Director and successfully transitioned to ‘Business As Usual’.​

  • CPG – IT Procurement Lead. Worked with the IT Leadership Team to plan and execute a ‘step change’ in approach to strategic sourcing and supplier management, including the re-contracting with the main SI partner, leading to the delivery of significant cost and efficiency benefits. ​

  • Retail – Client lead for Procurement Transformation project, working with external consultancy to design and implement a new operating model including full team re-structure.
